David's testimony
David : I accepted Christ on August 12, 1987 after talking to my mother. Both her and my father have been incredible examples for me in my Christian walk. In 1993 from September to early November my dad took our whole family plus a school teacher (ten people total) to the jungle inSanto Antonio do Içá, Brazil. He filled in for Dr. Jack Sorg at the Amazonas Baptist Hospital. We returned to Brazil as a family in 1996 for a six month period in which my dad filled in entirely for free. He paid out of his pocket to go on both trips. His sacrifice really made an impact on my life. Since those trips I have never wanted to do anything else with my life besides be a missionary. In the summer of 2004, I returned to the same town in Brazil to do my overseas internship in which I stayed for approximately six weeks. There I was able to see, be involved with, and get excited about the current ministry ABWE has in the jungle of Brazil. I saw the need for people to train and disciple the nationals down there. I also saw areas that still needed to be evangelized. I saw where ministries had closed down because of a lack of workers. I saw an area with many needs.
May of 2005 marked the end of my four years at Tennessee Temple University where I earned a Bachelors of Arts degree in Missions. I currently work at home calling churches in order to raise enough prayer and financial support to be in Brazil
Sarah: At a young age my big brother scared me about hell and so I prayed with my mother about being saved. I doubted my salvation often, although I had just enough of a dose of Christianity to make me believe that I was saved. Even through mission trips and feeling my need to be a missionary, I still was not saved. It was not until February 24, 2008 during a revival preached by my uncle, did I finally feel convicted of my sin, realize my need for repentence and to trust in what Christ did on the cross, and then give my life completely over to God to do with it as He pleased.
After a missions trip to Mexico and another to the Dominican Republic, I really felt God's leading in the area of Missions. When David and I went to Brazil in the summer of 2006, I felt peace about going there. The need for Biblical Counseling (my major in college) in the hospital there really stood out to me, as well as in the area of women's ministry!
